The CCNA certification is a prerequisite for Cisco’s higher-level certifications, such as the CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) and CCDP (Cisco Certified Design Professional). The four professional level certifications are the CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional), CCDP (Design Professional), CCIP (Internetworking Professional), and CCSP (Security Professional). The professional certifications are more advanced than the associate certifications.

All of the professional certifications have an associate certification prerequisite. The CCNP and CCDP are widely recognized certifications, and are specifically requested in many job posting. The CCIP is about a year old, and the CCSP was announced earlier this week, so they are currently not in very high demand.
